AuthorJohn MorcombeDateJuly 2021DescriptionIn the 1800s and early 1900s, before road and rail networks criss-crossed the northern parts of Sydney, the only highway by which the early settlers could transport goods and produce was the sea. A growing number of small ships plied the coast between Sydney and Pittwater, Brisbane Water and the Hawkesbury River with their crews often ricking their lives and sometimes losing them.
In 1909, two of these small coastal traders were lost in the space of three months. The first was the Narooma and the second was the Narara.
