Main
AuthorJohn MorcombeDateJune 2021DescriptionThroughout the late 1920s and early 1930s there was growing awareness of the role aviation would play in the future, especially in transport, travel and warfare.
On August 1, 1934, the Australian Air League was incorporated by Manly resident George Robey, Captain Walter Beale and five other men and soon after the Governor-General, Sir Isaac Isaacs, granted the League his patronage. Two months later, a branch of the Air League was formed at Manly – the first branch in Australia. By June 1935, the Manly branch of the Air League had 180 members.SubjectsaeroplanesAviationKeywordsGeorge RobeyCopyrightThis item may be used freely for research and study purposes, for all other uses contact Northern Beaches Council Library Local Studies.
