AuthorJohn MorcombeDate2020DescriptionIn the early yeas of Sydney, the Pittwater area was isolated from the settlement and became a haven for escaped convicts and outcasts. A Customs station was proposed for the area as early as 1831 to prevent smuggling but nothing came of it. However when 200 barrels of rum and brandy went missing, in 1842, a customs station was established at Broken Bay soon after.
