DateJanuary 2024DescriptionThe Big Swim from Palm Beach to Whale Beach is regarded as one of Australia’s original ocean swims and celebrates its 50th anniversary on Sunday 28 January 2024.
In 1974 the Captain of the Whale Beach Surf Life Saving Club, Bob Lynch came up with the idea of an ocean swim from Palm Beach to Whale Beach and 48 brave people completed the swim.
The event became increasingly popular and an annual fund raiser for Whale Beach SLSC.
Other surf lifesaving clubs on the Northern Beaches were inspired and started their own ocean swims which also became valuable fund raisers for their clubs.
The Ocean Swims series continues to grow in popularity and is generously sponsored by Northern Beaches Council.
