Record numberLH000342Date1961-1963DescriptionCloth prefect badge from Manly Girls High, Harbord Road Freshwater. Manly Girls High operated from 1959 to 1982. While the school was being built students attended Narrabeen Boys High. It opened initially with just a year 7 (1st Form) class and gradually grew by one grade each year. The school's official opening was not until 17th March 1964, by the Hon Catherine Sidney, daughter of the Governor-General of Australia, Viscount De L’Isle. The building of the school was completed in 1959, and the first girls came to the school in February 1960, but for some reason the official opening took place later, by which time some of the original enrolment had left the school. Miss E Knodler was the founding headmistress followed by Miss M Simpson who was headmistress until 1975. Unlike Balgowlah Boys, Manly Boys and Mackellar Girls, this school had nothing to do with the school located in Darley Road, Manly.
