Record numberLH010423Datec1905DescriptionCrowds are gathered around the 'Toboggan' slide, foreground, and man made lake at the base of Water Chute, awaiting the arrival of the thrilling boat ride, 'Shooting the Chute'. A miniature railway track can be seen near the small rotunda and ran around the water chute splash pool. The Manly Water Chute, corner of Ashburner Street and South Steyne, opened on 14 December 1903, taking up one and a half hectares of South Steyne. The grounds were open daily from 2.30pm to 10pm, and on holidays 11am to 10pm. The amusement attracted over 18,000 visitors in its first 3 weeks. It closed in 1906 after failing attendances and was developed into the Manly Water Chute Estate subdivision in 1906. This image appears to be part of a panorama
