Main
Record numberLH010371Datec1905DescriptionPanoramic view over the Manly Water Chute, on the corner of Ashburner Street, running east to west, to the left, and South Steyne, running north to south, to the right. Crowds are gathered around the man made lake at the base of Water Chute, awaiting the arrival of the thrilling boat ride, 'Shooting the Chute'. and around the 'Toboggan' slide, to the right. A miniature railway track can be seen near the small rotunda and ran around the water chute splash pool. Beach goers enjoy Manly Beach to the east. The Manly Water Chute opened on 14 December 1903, taking up one and a half hectares of South Steyne. The grounds were open daily from 2.30pm to 10pm, and on holidays 11am to 10pm. The amusement attracted over 18,000 visitors in its first 3 weeks. It closed in 1906 after failing attendances and was developed into the Manly Water Chute Estate subdivision in 1906
