Record numberLH010348Datec1919DescriptionPanoramic scene showing from the left, the 1910 Australian Bank of Commerce, at the junction of The Corso and East Esplanade, being converted into shops in the 1930s, the Edwardian style Manly Wharf and Clock Tower, and the Grand Pier Hotel, on the corner of East Esplanade and Belgrave Street, which stood opposite Manly Wharf for around 70 years before being demolished in 1925, becoming the Hotel Manly in 1926. The Manly Town Hall, with Town Hall gardens, and no welcome sign, can be seen to the right hand side of the image. The building, named Llangollen, was built in 1879, and was purchased in 1909 for 5,000 pounds, from A. J. S. Bank, once the home of W.H. Rolfe, a prominent Manly resident.
