The estate was built by Theodore Thomas Gurney, Professor of Mathematics at the University of Sydney, c1880 and was purchased in 1922 by A. E. Dalwood, who sold off the land surrounding the estate, retaining a small acreage for himself. In 1928, Dalwood donated the property to the Food For Babies Fund, which cared for mothers and babies from disadvantaged families and the Home has housed various groups, including care providers, hospitals and schools
