Record numberLH010213Datec1909DescriptionThe Government operated steam punt for the traffic at the Spit, Middle Harbour, commenced running on Wednesday, 25 September 1889, carrying up to eight vehicles, with the trip across around three to four minutes. The steam punt took over from an 1850 hand operated punt, which was given over to the Government in 1888, when Peter Ellery, who started the punt service, died.
