Record numberLH010184Date1978DescriptionView of the 1889 St Patrick's College, on the highest point of Eastern Hill, Manly, originally purposed for educating priests and Episcopal residents. The College was set on sixty acres of North Head, including both water frontages, with the land granted around 1879, on the condition that it would be enclosed and never subdivided. The buildings were deigned by Sheerin and Hennessy, architects, and constructed in a Gothic Revival style. The College was a symmetrical shape, with the central tower six stories high and two wings four stories high. For many years the College was the venue for Corpus Christi processions, when crowds of as many as 75,000 lined Darley Road, Manly, up to the college, with St Patrick’s celebrating its Golden Jubilee in October 1939.
