Robert Allen was born at Manly in 1888. He was employed as a carter.

He enlisted on 9 July 1915, and embarked on the Ballarat on 6 September. He served with the 13th Battalion at Pozieres, and was killed in the fighting at Tom’s Cut, Mouquet Farm on 14 August 1916. His younger brother Stephen Charles Allen died on the same day.

They are commemorated on a headstone in Manly Cemetery, plot B.618.
