Eric Dean Ballard was a dentist by profession and was born in Perth. His father William Thomas Ballard lived in Pittwater Road, Dee Why.

Eric joined the Australian Army at 19 and 8 months of age on 23rd April, 1915. He was wounded in action in France on 26th July, 1916. He was then posted to the 66 Dental Unit in England from No. 1 Command Depot on 14th February 1917. He returned to Australia on the Balmoral Castle on 29th March, 1918 and was discharged as a consequence of medical unfitness on 31st August 1918.

He lived at Dee Why, and died on 3 October 1956 at Concord Hospital.
