Ronald Beal was 22 years and 6 months at enlistment on 25th January 1915. He was a clerk by trade. His mother Mrs. M.T. Beal resided at 33 Alexander Street, Manly.

Ronald joined the 2nd Battalion, and fought at Gallipoli from 17th May 1915. On 7th August 1915 a gunshot wound to his right foot invalided him to England. He was then discharged and appointed 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery Special Reserve attached to Great Britain Reserve Brigade Royal Field Artillery at Edinburgh. Ronald was discharged on 3rd December 1915 and granted a Commission by the Imperial Army.
