Victor William was a blacksmith by trade and was 22 years and 6 months at enlistment on 15th June 1915. His father August Beckman resided in North Manly at Waine Street. Victor embarked at Sydney on 9th August 1915.

He was wounded several times in July and August 1916, and in September 1916 with gun-shot wounds to the left arm. He was wounded in action again on 21st October 1918.

Victor returned to Australia on the Kashmir on 2nd May 1919 and was discharged on 24th June 1919. Victor’s brother Arthur Beckman also served overseas with the Australian Army, joining in 1915.
