Mr Bridges was a railway signalman at Valley Heights on enlistment. He enlisted on 17 August 1914, aged 22. He had a brother Harold Austin Bridges, and two sisters, Lilian and Myrtle. His mother was Janet Mary Blackwell, whose funeral was on the day that word reached Manly that James had been killed.
