Mr Clark was born in Melbourne. He was a labourer. Both his parents were dead, and his legal guardian was Mr Gaston Cook, Pittwater Road, North Manly. He enlisted on 7 September 1914, aged 19 and 3 months. He had spent three years in cadets.

He was shot in the head at Gallipoli, and died at sea on the hospital ship HMS Newmarket on 27 May 1915.
