Frederick Henry Daley was born in Manly and was 21 and 1 month at enlistment on 11thJanuary 1916. Frederick was a carter by trade and resided at “Koorindah”, Mandalong Road, Mosman with his father Phillip Lawrence Daley. He embarked from Australia on 29th July 1916 landing in Plymouth England on 14th September 1916.

Frederick was absent without leave from 12th November 1916 to 17th November 1916 totaling 110 hours and was awarded 120 hours detention and forfeit of 11 days’ pay. On 16th September 1917 he was wounded in action, with severe gun- shot wound to the left buttock. Frederick embarked on the hospital ship Princess Elizabeth on 17th September 1917 to England for treatment, where he was admitted to the King George Hospital in London.

Frederick went A.W.O.L again on the 15th December 1917 for five days and forfeited six days’ pay. On the 15th June 1919 Frederick returned to Australia per the Rio Negro from England. Frederick’s brother, Reginald John Daley also served, but died of wounds in France 1918.
