John Samuel Dethick

John and William Dethick were identical twins, whose war experience was in many respects similar. John was born in 1893 at Granville, Sydney. He served a seven-year apprenticeship with his father, Robert S Dethick, a plumber in Belgrave Street, Manly. Before the war, he played rugby for Manly.

John enlisted on 22 March 1915, aged 21 and 6 months. He served with the no1 Allied Central Clearing Station. He served in Gallipoli and France. On 14th September 1918 he was promoted to lance-corporal.He returned to Australia on the Kaiser-i-Hind in March 1919.He lived latterly at Manly Vale. He died on 15 March 1968 [1].
