James Duff was born at Bega in 1899. His father lived at Fernbank, Gilbert Park, and James was a student at time of enlistment. He enlisted on 14 May 1917, and embarked on the Ulysseson 19 December 1917. He served in Egypt, and returned to Australia on the Ulimaroa on 13 March 1919.

He died on 22nd September 1971 aged 71 years.

Buried at West Wyalong General Cemetery.
