Michael Duffy was born in 1894 to Bridget Duffy. They lived at 16 Whistler Road (now Golf Parade), Manly, prior to his enlistment. He was a survey draughtsman.

He enlisted on 25 May 1915 and embarked on the Wandilla on 14 June 1915. He was wounded in the leg at Gallipoli and treated in hospital in Alexandria. He was transferred to the 45th Battalion, and was wounded in the shoulder on 5 April 1918.

He was awarded the Military Medal for his actions on 8 August 1918 at Hamel, east of Corbie when he took ten enemy prisoners. He was wounded for the third time in the hand and neck on 18 September 1918.

After the war, he married Mary Greene, in Cork, Ireland, on 5 April 1919. He returned to Australia on the Ormondeon 16 June 1919. He died in 1934.
