J F Duncan

James Francis Duncan was killed at Gallipoli on 16 May 1915. His name is not on the Manly War Memorial. He was a member of Manly Band. He was born in Victoria, and was a tailor in civilian life. His next of kin was given as his sister, living at Moore Park and later at Panorama Parade, Seaforth; however a widow’s pension was later paid to his widow, Linda May Duncan, and he had a daughter Dorothy.

He served in the 2nd NSW Mounted Rifles in the Boer War.He enlisted at Randwick on 19 August 1914, aged 33, no 1325. He embarked on the Euripides on 20 October 1914. He was killed at Gallipoli not long after the landings, probably on 16 May 1915. A Court of Enquiry was held in 1916 to establish the circumstances; a fellow bandsman from B Company said he helped to bury him.
