Nicholas Florimo was born in Italy, and was a naturalised British subject. He was a quarryman. He was divorced from his wife Lilian; events leading to the divorce were luridly outlined in Truth15 December 1912, p5. His next of kin was his mother, Mrs Mary Florimo, liv ing at Addiscombe Park, Manly. His address was at Dale Road, Brookvale.

He enlisted on 9 January 1916 and served in the 1st Battalion Pioneers. He embarked on the Wiltshire on 22 August 1916, and returned to Australia on the Darwin on 12 June 1919.
