An Edward Norman Gibson was born at Ourimbah, near Gosford. He was a labourer.

He enlisted on 20 November 1915 and served with the 2nd then the 6th Light Horse in Egypt.

He was hospitalised on several occasions for myalgia, tonsillitis and rheumatism.

He was discharged due to rheumatism, and returned to Australia on the Euripides on 22 January 1917.

His connection to Manly is not known; National Archives has a record of a man with the same name at Manly aged 21 in 1918, which may be the same man attempting to re-enlist towards the end of the war. There is no record of Trooper Gibson attaining the rank of Corporal.
