Cecil Heberle, known as Bob, was born at Adelaide on 18 June 1884. He married in 1905 but divorced in 1911. He was a butcher. His father’s parents were German, and his father was interned during WWI. His (second) wife Emily was living at 7 Norton Street, Manly. Cecil tried to enlist in 1915, but was discharged before a service number was assigned.

He enlisted on 18 September 1917, stating that he had previously enlisted in 1914 but had been discharged for fighting.

He embarked on the Euripides on 31 October 1917.

He served as a Private with the 1st and the 4th Field Butchery. His military record was punctuated by numerous offences and crimes, including run-ins with military police. He returned to Australia on the Chemnitz on 7 July 1919.

He died on 1 March 1921, aged 38; the cause did not relate to his military service.
