Frank Herron was born at Guernsey, Channel Islands. He was a waiter. He enlisted on 5 September 1914 aged 25, giving as next of kin his mother, living in the Channel Islands.
He embarked on 20 October 1914, and served with the 4th Battalion at Gallipoli.
He suffered nervous collapse on 9 May 1915. After hospital recuperation he rejoined the Battalion, but was wounded in the arm on 1 July 1915.
He was returned to Australia for discharged on the Aeneason 21 October 1915.
