Adrian Eric Hind was born at Forest Lodge in 1893. He was a dental mechanic. He enlisted on 8 March 1915, giving his father as next of kin, living at 53 Whistler Street, Manly.

He embarked on the Ceramic on 25 June 1915.

He was wounded in action and hospitalised with shellshock in France on 22 August 1916. He was promoted to Lance-Corporal on 15 December 1916.

He was hospitalised with trench fever and trench foot in 1917.

On 26 April 1918 he was gassed. On 1 July 1918, he was reported to be wounded in the foot; doubts were raised that the wound was self-inflicted, but the soldier had embarked for Australia on the Morvada before this could be investigated.
