Cyril Holloway was born at Scone in 1891. He was a bank clerk. He enlisted on 2 August 1915, giving as next of kin his father, Charles Holloway of Freshwater.

He embarked on the Port Nicholsonon 14 October 1915. He was promoted to Corporal with the 53rd battalion on 1 April 1916.

On 4 January 1918 he applied for officer cadet training, and was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant on 1 August 1918, and as Lieutenant on 1 November 1918.

He returned to Australia on the Fredricksruhon 16 July 1919.
