Arthur Holmes was born at Singleton in 1892. He was a telephone mechanic. He enlisted on 13 February 1915, giving his next of kin as his mother, living at West Maitland.

He embarked on 13 June 1915, and served with the 7th Light Horse at Gallipoli, but was hospitalised with influenza and enteric fever. He was invalided home. He attempted to return to duty on June 1916, but was discharged from service on 11 August 1916. Latterly he lived at High Street, Manly.
