Eugene Lefort was born at Middlesex, England on 16 June 1898. He enlisted on 9 August 1915 (so was under-age). He was an electrical mechanic. His next of kin was Elizabeth Lefort, Annandale, Cohen Street, Manly.

He embarked on 23 December 1915. He served with the 20h Battalion then was transferred to the 56th Battalion. He was promoted to Lance-Corporal on 12 October 1917. He was wounded in action on 18 August 1918 on the foot and buttocks.

He was returned to Australia on the Derbyshire on 2 March 1919.
