An undated Manly Daily cutting stated: “Another Manly tram driver is going to the war. Thomas MacKenzie, of Pacific Parade has enlisted and goes into camp next Monday. He will join the AMC. He has five years’ efficiency in Manly, and holds a gold medal, a silver medal, two silver bars and a certificate.”

Pte MacKenzie is commemorated on a headstone in Manly Cemetery, plot U.353.
