Alexander McPherson was born in c1884 and was one of four McPherson brothers to enlist. Their mother Jennie lived at Cohen Street, Manly. Alexander lived at Cohen Street with his wife Emily.

He enlisted on 5 January 1916, giving his trade as Carter. He served in France with the 1st Battalion, and was later transferred to the Salvage Corps. He was promoted to Lance-Corporal on 4 June 1918.

The photo is mis-captioned, and it is not clear which of the brothers it is of - possibly of Alexander.
