Harry Mendall was born at Bradford, Yorkshire. He was living at 1 the Corso, where he worked as a shop assistant at Gosbell’s. He enlisted on 16 July 1917 aged 29.

He embarked on the Euripides on 31 October 1917 and served with the 55th Battalion. He went absent without leave on 19 March 1918 and was not caught. He forfeited his pay entitlements and war service medals.

A Harry Mendall was listed in the 1901 Census for England at 12 Thorncliffe Square, Bradford as an assistant to his father, Samuel Mendall, a tailor. Harry was imprisoned in HMP Wakefield in 1910 for one month for begging.

A Harry Mendall married in Bolton in 1921. A Harry Mendall was listed at 30 Clarendon Road, London in 1947.
