Victor Mulholland was born at North Sydney and was a boot sewer. He enlisted on 15 May 1915 aged 26, giving as next of kin his mother at 8 Wood Street, Manly.

He embarked on 5 January 1916 and served as a Driver with the Field Artillery. He was promoted to Corporal on 24 May 1916 and Sergeant on 23 October 1917. He was awarded the Military Medal on 20 April 1918 (gazetted 16 July 1918) for his actions at Dernancourt.

He returned to Australia on the China on 1 May 1919. His Australian fiancée wrote to the military authorities enquiring his whereabouts. A woman from Gloucester, England also wrote with a similar enquiry.

In the 1930s, he featured in a sensational divorce case. His wife May was a habitual burglar, who appeared in court under various aliases [1]. She was imprisoned. He had by this time become a well-to-do boot and shoe manufacturer at Erskineville.
