Frank Newton was born at Sydney circa 1880. He was an estate agent. He enlisted on 29 March 1915, giving as next of kin his mother living at Mosman. His connection to Manly is unclear.

He embarked on 10 November 1915, and served with the 8th Field Ambulance. He contracted an oedema in his foot, and was returned to Australia on the Barambah on 8 April 1917. He was discharged from duty on 10 July 1917; his record was marked as ‘over age’.

A Frank Newton, aged 41, was reported missing from his home at Stuart Street, Manly in 1920, possibly the same man. A Frank Newton was implicated in a divorce case with a Mrs Bates in 1920, possibly the same man.
