Harry Nicholls was born at Ashfield in c1890. He was a tailor’s cutter at David Jones. He and his brother Thomas enlisted on 24 August 1915, both particularly requesting to serve with the Australian Medical Corps; a letter in support was supplied by Dr Hall of Manly.

He embarked on 22 December 1915 and served with the 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital. He was promoted to Corporal and was briefly temporary Sergeant.

He returned to Australia on the Beltana on 2 June 1919.
