Guy Nield was born in 1892 at Dubbo and was a station hand. He was the son of Joseph Nield, of 99 Sydney Road, Manly. He enlisted on 12 February 1915 and served with the 12th Light Horse.

He was at Gallipoli, where he was hospitalised with a leg infection. He also served in the Middle East. He was commended by his commanding officer for his covering fire during the battle for Gaza. He was promoted to Lance-Corporal then Corporal.

He returned to Australia in Jul 1919. On 2 July 1920 on a property near Roma, Queensland, he died in an accident, which occurred it was thought when he was thrown from his horse.
