Thomas Perkins was born at Tumut in 1889 and was a clerk. He enlisted on 9 February 1915, giving his father, at James Street, Manly, as next of kin.

He embarked on the Kyarra on 12 April 1915, and served with the 2nd AGH. He was hospitalised in 1915 with enteric fever.

He returned to Australia on nursing duties, then returned to the front, serving as a Driver with the 5thDAC. He returned to Australia on the Durham on 22 May 1919.
