William Roxburgh was born in Leeds, England in 1881 and was a baker. He enlisted on 25 July 1915, giving his wife at William Street, Manly as next of kin.

He embarked on 2 November 1915 and served in the 54th Battalion in Egypt in 1916. In March 1917 he was transferred to the 5th Field Bakery. He was then transferred to the 2nd Infantry Battalion on 11 September 1917, and was wounded in action eleven days later. He was gassed on 15 August 1918 and after hospitalization he returned to Australia on the City of Poonaon 28 March 1919.

He died at Fairlight on 27 March 1951.
