Gerald Ryan was born at Redfern in 1898. He was a clerk. He enlisted on 11 December 1916 with his parents’ permission.

He embarked on the Anchises on 24 January 1917 and was posted to France on 13 August 1917. He went missing in action, presumed killed on 15 April 1918.
