George Skinner was born at Richmond, NSW in 1889 and was a woodwork machinist. He enlisted on 22 July 1915, giving his wife Clara at Hutton Street, Manly, as next of kin.

He served with the AAMC in Egypt. He was admitted to the no 1 Hospital at Heliopolis with a tubercular tibia on 19 December 1915 and invalided to Australia on 3 January 1916 on the Ulysses. He was discharged from service on 16 February 1916.
