Ewart Stevens was born at Essex, England and was a surveyor’s foreman. He enlisted on 6 January 1915, aged 36, giving as next of kin his mother living at Elim, Addison Road, Manly.

He embarked on 17 March 1915 and served with the 4th Battalion. He was transferred to the 1stMachine Gun Company in March 1916 as a Driver. He married a Miss Brown at Woodford, Essex on 2 May 1918.

He returned to Australia on the Kigomaon 20 May 1920.
