William Suggate was born at Leichhardt in 1897. He lived for a time in Leeton. He was a tailor’s apprentice prior to enlistment.

He was assigned to the 53rd Battalion, and arrived in France on 30 March 1916. He was at Pozieres and Mouquet Farm, and also at Bullecourt. He undertook trench mortar training and was assigned to a light trench mortar battery. He was killed in action on 3 October 1917 in Belgium.A short obituary appeared in the Murrumbidgee Irrigator, 2 November 1917, p2.
