Alfred Susans was born at Woolloomooloo and was a sanitary worker. He enlisted on 10 May 1915, giving his wife at Cohen Street, Manly as next of kin. He gave his age as 42, but he was ten years older.

He embarked on 25 July 1915 and served with the 4th Battalion in Egypt. He was treated for VD in January 1916. He was assigned to Quartermaster’s Stores in November 1916.

He was returned to Australia on 30 January 1918 on the Euripides as over-age and rheumatic, and was discharged from service on 1 May 1918.

He died at Balgowlah in September 1939 aged 76.
