James Teddiman was born at Parramatta and was a salesman. He enlisted aged 28 on 14 April 1915, giving his father, at Penrith, Marshall Street, Manly, as next of kin.

He embarked on 16 June 1915, and served with the 1st Battalion at Gallipoli. He was badly wounded in action in both legs at Gallipoli between 6-9 August 1915. After hospital treatment in England he was returned to Australia on the Euripides on 24 June 1916 for discharge from military service. He died in 1952.
