Harold Turner was born at Newtown on 30 September 1897 and was a labourer. He enlisted on 17 January 1916 giving as next of kin his parents, living at High Street, Manly.

He served in France with the 60th Battalion. He went Awol on more than one occasion and was sentenced to Field Punishment no 2. He returned to Australia on the Orontes on 15 May 1919. He then re-enlisted for special service accompanying returned German prisoners of war. This photo is captioned ‘Arnold Turner’, but signature of Harold Turner on war service record could be read as Arnold. There does not seem to have been an Arnold Turner connected to Manly.
