Harold Vickers was born in 1886 at Eccles, Lancashire. He was a carpenter. He enlisted on 8 June 1915, giving as next of kin his mother, living in England.

He served at Gallipoli from 4 November 1915 then in France. He was hospitalized with appendicitis in April 1916. He was invalided home to Australia on the Euripides on 24 June 1916; the initial diagnosis was shellshock, amended to suppurating appendix. He was medically discharged from service on 14 September 1916.

He wrote to the military authorities in 1939 from his address at Frenchs Forest Soldiers’ Settlement enquiring about replacing his war medals, which had been lost in the bushfires of January 1939.
