Henry Williams was born at St Kilda, Melbourne and was a motor driver. He enlisted aged 24 on 10 November 1915, giving as next of kin his mother, living at Seaview Street, Manly.

He served with the 17th Battalion in France. He was hospitalized in January 1917 with VD. On 9 October 1917 he was wounded in action in the left groin. He was returned to Australia on 16 December 1917 for discharge.
