Sydney Wogan-Browne was born at Plaistow, England in 1893 and was a clerk. He enlisted on 31 July 1916, giving as next of kin his mother, living at Pacific Street, Manly.

He embarked on the Beltana on 25 November 1916 and served with the 34th Battalion. He was temporarily promoted to Sergeant in May 1917, reverted to the ranks, then was promoted to Lance-Corporal on 1 July 1918.

He returned to Australia on the Aeneas on 22 November 1919. His brother Victor was killed in action.
