Record number40824Date1938DescriptionTo commemorate World War I. Note the kerb and guttering - one of the first laid at Harbord. The western end of Soldiers Avenue was originally named Copeland Street and the eastern end, Matherson Street. Warringah Council renamed both sections Soldiers Avenue a few years after World War I. With the help of the local Progress Association, the avenue became a memorial to deceased serviceman.
